Hi, everyone! I’m here to share not just one recent interview I’ve done, but TWO. 🙂
First up is a #GirlsRock interview with Eli at Coach Daddy. The #GirlsRock series is dedicated to highlighting women who are doing amazing things and making the world a better place. Some of the women Eli has interviewed in the past include journalists, podcasters, TV reporters, and musicians / artists. So I’m honored – and psyched! – to be featured on Eli’s blog again. (I wrote this guest post for Coach Daddy back in 2015.) We talk about my editing / writing coaching business Heart of the Story, poetry, and my one piece of advice for women who enjoy writing.
Recently I was interviewed by Jennifer Sparkman for her online magazine The Articles of Antiquity. And what did we talk about? Writing, of course! 😉 Poetry, DIY MFA, all-time favorite writers, sources of inspiration, and a few other topics. I had fun answering Jen’s questions, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the end result.
Today marks the blog’s 7th birthday!  😀  It seems like forever ago when I signed up for a free WordPress account – and to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing back then when it came to blogging. But since then, this site has evolved so much, and I’ve learned a lot and become a better writer because of it. And now, it’s time to celebrate this special birthday with a post that YOU, the readers, voted for.
Last month, readers selected an interview with yours truly as this year’s blogoversary post. I admit that I was a little nervous about this – but I’m an introvert. Of course, I would be nervous about being interviewed. This turned out to be a lot of fun, though, and I thank everyone who submitted questions. Enjoy!

Yesterday I stopped by Jenny Bravo’s Blots & Plots for her bi-monthly feature #FriendFriday. It’s a short interview, but it covers quite a lot of ground. I shared a little bit about how I started writing, offered advice on how writers can connect with future readers, and recalled one college professor’s encouragement that is most responsible for guiding me to where I am today as a writer. 🙂

Yesterday, Gabriela Pereira (a.k.a. my boss at DIY MFA) interviewed me at DIY MFA as part of the site’s new podcast series, “Behind DIY MFA.” We talked about my column Theme: A Story’s Soul and the importance of themes in stories we read and write. We also talked about non-theme-related topics like versatility vs niche writing, the purpose of passion in one’s writing life, and writing rituals. In other words, LOTS of writing topics. 🙂
I have to admit: I was sooooooo nervous right before the interview and again before I listened to the finished product last night, but I knew doing this would be fun and also good “public speaking” practice. And it was. Plus, Gabriela is an awesome interviewer and host; she’s warm, encouraging, funny, and adaptive to any technical glitches. (*ahem* Skype disconnections *ahem*)
