I’m thrilled to share that my poem “Breath of a Humpback Whale” has been published in the Fall 2018 issue of Muddy River Poetry Review! This poem was inspired by a whale watch I went on last fall – or, more specifically, a particular moment during the whale watch that took my breath away. 🙂

And if you have the time, please check out some of the other poets who are featured in this issue. I particularly recommend feature poets Fred Marchant and Susan Edwards Richmond, as well as Steve Klepetar and Nina Rubenstein Alonso.
Congratulations, Sara! Breath-taking indeed!

A beautiful way to capture the memory – I loved it! You managed to express both the moment and the surroundings so well, and express the wonder to the reader. I have never witnessed a Humpback Whale in real life, sadly, but your poem helped me share the experience – so thank you 🙂
I also read about 10 of the other poems in the issue and was surprised by the diversity of form and subject. I particularly enjoyed the poem “Seedless Guavas” by Ravi Teja Yelamanchili – with its juxtaposition of traditional Hindu literature and scriptures with the poem, old and new, and cultural differences.
Congratulations again on the publication!

You’re welcome! And thank you for your lovely comments on the poem. ❤
I actually hadn't read "Seedless Guavas" until you mentioned it! And I agree, it's a great poem. Great visuals, and very thought-provoking for the reasons you mentioned.
