A Double Dose of New DIY MFA Articles, Including One on the Iceland Writers Retreat

DiyMFA

Yup, that’s right! I have not one, but TWO new DIY MFA articles to share with you this week! 😉

First, My Experience with and Tips on “Honoring Your Reality”

For my regularly scheduled column, I’m taking a break from literary themes to talk about “honoring your reality.” It’s a term that DIY MFA founder Gabriela Pereira uses to describe the need for maintaining a balance between one’s writing life and real-life responsibilities. But as many writers know, achieving this balance is easier said than done. So this week, I’m sharing my experience with the challenges of honoring one’s reality, as well as some tips that both reinforce and expand on Gabriela’s teachings.

I’m really proud of how this post turned out, especially since it’s also very personal, so I hope that readers will find it helpful, too. So, click here to read “Seven Steps to Honoring Your Reality.”

Second, a #5onFri Post on the Iceland Writers Retreat

So I mentioned last week that I had some articles about the Iceland Writers Retreat in the works… And the first one went live on Friday! For DIY MFA’s weekly #5onFri series, I shared five reasons why writers should consider attending the retreat in the future. The post doesn’t go too in-depth about the trip, but it offers just enough to give you an idea of what the retreat is like and how writers can benefit craft-wise as well as from a cultural and personal perspective.

Interest piqued? Then click here to read “#5onFri: Five Reasons to Attend the Iceland Writers Retreat.”

As always, feel free to comment on the DIY MFA articles (I try to check comments when I have a chance) and share the links on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. In the meantime, I hope you’re having a great week so far!

  1. *Looks askance at the fact that this was posted April 25th and it’s now May 9th.* I really fell behind this time! *NICE BIG FACE PALM*
Sorry for the over dramatic reaction right there. I shall check these out promptly. But first, let me catch up on your wonderful blog ❤

    • No worries. You’ve needed to take care of yourself lately – and there’s never an expiration date on reading and commenting on blog posts. So I completely understand.

Hope you enjoy the DIY MFA articles, btw. The IWR one also features some photos I took during my trip. 😉
