Looking for Suggestions for This Year’s Blogoversary

Happy Blogoversary

Guess what? July 9th marks this site’s 7th birthday! 😮

Now that the blogoversary is one month away, I’m starting to think about how to celebrate it. Yet I keep running into the same hurdle: I don’t know what to choose.

So, like with last year’s blogoversary, I’d like your feedback on how we should celebrate this year. I have a couple ideas, but I’m open to your suggestions, too.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

A Character Interview with Nomaro of My As-Yet Unwritten Novella?

Character interviews have been a fabulous way of helping me get to know my characters better. However, the overall reception to these posts has been “hit or miss.” Last year’s interview with Eva, my protagonist for The Keeper’s Curse, received a lot more interest than the interview with Aurek Kolsteg (also from TKC) this past March.

Personally, I’d love to interview Nomaro, one of the protagonists for a novella I’m planning to write. (You can read about him here and here.) But I’ll consider other options if readers would prefer something else.

Another Giveaway?

Giveaways are always fun, especially since readers can benefit from them. 🙂 But I held one in April… so, is it too soon to have another one? If not, what kinds of bookish or writerly prizes would you like to see? Or would the past prizes (free book from The Book Depository, first chapter critiques) suffice?

Would You Like to Interview Me? (*gulp*)

I’ve seen other blogs celebrate their anniversaries by giving readers the chance to ask questions about the bloggers themselves. This option makes me a little nervous… but that might be my super-shy, super-modest side coming out. If enough readers would like this option, I’d be willing to try it.

Do You Have Any Ideas? Plus, A Poll to Collect Your Votes

Since I’m having trouble deciding, I’d really like your input. So, what would you like to see for this year’s blogoversary? Do you have other suggestions besides the ones listed above? Let me know by voting in the poll below and/or commenting on this post. I’ll accept any votes, comments, and suggestions through Thursday, June 16th.

EDIT: The poll is now closed. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!

  1. From my experience a combination of those options is a good idea. All of them have their benefits. I’m still working out good blogging celebrations. XD Giveaways definitely attract people, so if I were you (And I plan to do something similar for mine), is maybe do a giveaway and an interview with you. Something like that. Just a thought.

    • A combination of all the options is a nice idea. But now that I’ve cut down on my blogging schedule, I have to be mindful of how much time I have to spend on things. So right now, I’m going to focus on one blogoversary option. If there’s a close second, I might do it at a later time.

Thanks for your input though, Tori. 🙂

  2. I like the idea of an interview with you. 🙂 I’d be interested to know more about you and your writings. And wow, seven years! That’s a big achievement. Well done. 🙂

  3. Voted!

Personally, I’m not much of a reader of character interviews, but I’m totally up for grilling you with random questions. Always great to learn more about a fantastic blogger and friend! Happy (early) Bloggerversary, dear!

  4. Congrats on your upcoming blogoversary! Seven years is such an amazing achievement; I’m still working through my first year 😉
I put my vote for the interview with you, because I’m having a bit of trouble conceiving of any ideas at the moment…
Or you could do something like a reflection piece of the past seven years or a look back at some of the best moments on your blog in the past. Or you could write a letter to past you seven years about things you would change…
These might be terrible ideas 😛
Whatever you do, I’m sure it will be amazing ❤

    • Thanks, Faith! 🙂 It’s weird, because I did very little actual blogging during the first couple years I had this site (as a free WP blog). It only feels like things have really come together over the past 2 years.

The interview option is still in the lead. 😉 Let’s see what happens over the next week and a half!

  5. Congrats. Looks like the interview idea is the most popular. This month is also my 7 year blogoversary for one of my blogs, though I had my 4th for my main blog earlier this year. But I didn’t do anything! My YouTube channel is also having its 7th anniversary this month. I wonder if I should do something for it.

Enjoy the interview 🙂 I subscribed!

    • Thanks, Jay! And yes, the interview option is still in the lead. 😉

Every blog seems to be different when it comes to blogoversaries. Some celebrate them; others don’t. It probably depends on the blogger’s schedule, niche, priorities, etc. Last year was the first time I celebrated the blog’s birthday, but it was mostly because last year was a great year in terms of the blog’s growth and support, and I wanted to thank readers for what they’ve done to make it so.

      • I have monthly posts where I thank my top commenters and promote their blogs. It’s kind of competitive. But I may do a blogoversary next year, since it will be my 5th for my main blog.

  6. How about interviewing you AND Nomaro? That sounds like fun 😛 I’m bad at just picking one thing, you see . . .
And you might have answered this already, but would you have other bloggers interview you on their sites, or would you do a question submission (like Victoria Grace often does for her BP)?? Either way would be cool, I think. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ll come up with. I’m sure it will be good.

As an aside: I can never remember my blogoversary (translation: I’m too lazy to do THAT research)

    • How did I know you were going to pick Nomaro’s interview in some way? XD And a joint interview with me and Nomaro? Hmmmmm. That might be entertaining. I wonder what he would think of that.

[Nomaro: *stalks out of the room without a word*]

      OK then…

If the “interviewing me” option wins, I’m planning to do it just like Tori did on her site a few months ago. Readers will ask questions in a submission post, and I’ll answer them here at the blog. I might also offer two options for submitting questions: publicly via comments, or privately via a submission form.

Thanks for your feedback, btw! 🙂
