Stacking The Shelves is a weekly event hosted by Tynga’s Reviews that shares the books (both physical and virtual) that you recently purchased, borrowed from a fellow reader or the library, won from a giveaway, or received as gifts. Stacking The Shelves will post on Saturdays as new books are added to my shelves.

After some big hauls from Writer’s Digest Conference and the Boston Teen Author Festival, and with Christmas not too far away, I haven’t felt the need to buy books lately.  But thanks to two giveaway wins, a pre-order, and a book I’ve been so eager to read that I needed it ASAP, I’ve got some new goodies to share with you! And really, what book lover doesn’t love bookmail? 🙂

Is it just me, or does something about this photo look… crooked?

The Waterfire Saga (Deep Blue, Rogue Wave, and Dark Tide) by Jennifer Donnelly (YA Fantasy): Thanks to Readers in Wonderland, I can tick a few more boxes off my future “market research” project on mermaid novels. 😀 Thank you, Alise and Bec!

The Weight of Feathers by Anna-Marie McLemore (YA Magical Realism): This book wasn’t on my radar until reviews for it began popping up in August. It’s received a ton of praise, even comparisons to Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus (which I’ll definitely need to read soon now!). So when The Writer Diaries ran a giveaway for The Weight of Feathers, I figured, “Why not?” Thank you, ladies!

Towers Fall (Towers Trilogy, Book #3) by Karina Sumner-Smith (Fantasy / Science Fiction): I can’t believe this series is over! Trilogy installments usually come out once every 12 months, but this one has wrapped up much more quickly. (The first book, Radiant, was released last fall and the second book, Defiant, in May.) Maybe that explains why I feel like I’m not ready to know how Xhea and Shai’s story ends.

Ink and Bone (The Great Library, Book #1) by Rachel Caine (YA Fantasy / Alternate History): This book needed to be mine NOW, especially after all the amazing reviews it got over the summer. It’s got a fantastic premise, too; it explores what could have happened if the Great Library of Alexandria, Egypt had never been destroyed. Yes, a book about BOOKS and a LIBRARY. You know you want to read this now, too. 😉

Btw, did you notice the three tiny boxes on top of the stack? Jennifer Donnelly has a nail polish line for the Waterfire Saga that was also part of Readers In Wonderland’s giveaway. I may be an adult, but I won’t pass up free nail polish! Here’s how all three colors came out when I tried them.

  1. So much blue! I pretty much have something to say about all your books today. First, I can’t believe the Waterfire Saga already has three books? I swear it feels like yesterday Deep Blue was released. And second, I’ve been hearing so much about The Weight of Feathers, and I’m so tempted to try out the audio for it. Third, I just finished Towers Fall last night! I hope you’ll like it. And fourth, I just about flipped when I saw you’d gotten Ink and Bone. It’s one of my favorite books this year! Enjoy! 🙂

    • I didn’t realize that before! Yes, there IS a lot of blue. *lol*

      Apparently there’s going to be a fourth (and final) Waterfire book next year, called Sea Spell. Maybe I should read the first book sooner rather than later, in case I want to stay on top of the whole series…?

      I noticed on Goodreads that you were reading Towers Fall! Did you like it?

      YES. I HAVE INK AND BONE. I need to sneak it in next month so I can include it on my year-end list if I enjoy it enough. (I’m sure I will, considering everyone else I know who’s read it has loved it…?).

  2. Mermaids! I would totally read it just for that. You’ll have to tell us how they turn out! 🙂 Here’s hoping they stay in the ocean, because what a cool setting!!

    The nail polish worked out really well! Super cute. 🙂

    • Yes! And it does sound like these stories take place underwater, for the most part. There might not even be any human characters, either. I’m not sure when I’ll get to the first book, Deep Blue, but I’m looking forward to it.

      Aren’t the colors purdy? 😀 I especially like the purple and coral shades.
