I couldn’t resist. The final Hobbit film trailer was released yesterday, and since it’s the film I’ve been looking forward to most this year… well, I’m going to be brief in my fangirliness:
It’s so darkly, epicly (or epically?), heartbreakingly AWESOME. Makes me so excited for what’s in store and seeing it all play out. Can’t wait for December 17th! 😀

My wife and I are looking forward to ‘completing the set’ by seeing it at the flicks in December. Will be strange to think that there will be no more Middle Earth films after this one. Kind of thought that after LOTR but there was always the possibility of the Hobbit. Can’t see them doing the Silmarillion somehow…

It will be strange, I agree. And with this film in particular, it’s going to be heart-shattering because of… well, because of certain things that are going to happen. I’m assuming you’ve read The Hobbit…? I can’t speak for the Silmarillion because I haven’t read it yet… *blushes* But I got a copy for my birthday a couple months ago, so I really should make time for it soon.

I read the Hobbit at school. Before I was into reading. I went home and told my Dad how much I loved it and he handed me a copy of Magician by Raymond E Feist. And so it all began…
Hobbit has a special place in my heart as a result and have read it several times since, so know exactly what you are getting at. In fact a character in my WIP is named in honour of Tolkien’s worlds (and will make sense in it’s context at a later point).
Silmarillion is okay. I’ll be honest, there were parts in LOTR books that I struggled with that went on and on and on. Beautifully written but with no point. More like poetry. Silmarillion is like that but even more extreme. On the plus side it can be read in chunks as it’s more like short stories.

A couple other people have recommended that I take my time with The Silmarillion, so that’s my “plan of attack” for it. I know what you mean about Tolkien’s writing style, though. Have you read The Children Of Hurin, btw?

Thanks for sharing this, I can’t wait to see this movie! I’ve read the Hobbit several times as a kid and again when the movies were announced. I so hope they change the ending! I can’t believe I’m saying that!

If you’re referring to the part I’m thinking of… a certain actor has already confirmed what the final words his character will speak in this film. *gasps*
I’m bringing tissues in case this makes me cry as frequently as I cried during Deathly Hallows Part 2.
